Media type usually refers to the physical form of a publication but sometimes also to its contents.
There is a growing number of media types in LIBRIS
At the moment the following types are represented:
| Printed music | Both Swedish and foreign |
| Sound recordings | At the moment there is only a limited number of this media type in the LIBRIS Database. |
| Maps | Mainly maps printed in Sweden since 1986. |
| Film/video | Mainly Swedish material. At the moment there is only a limited number of this media type in the LIBRIS Database |
| Microfilm/fiche | Catalogues and other material on microfilm or microfiche |
| Pictures | Descriptions of pictures (i.e. architecture drawings, photographs, posters et al) available at some of the major Swedish research libraries. At the moment there is only a limited number. |
| Posters | Descriptions of posters in Swedish library collections (mainly in Kungl. biblioteket, National Library of Sweden- National Library of Sweden). |
| Digitized pictures | Digitized pictures accessible via Internet links (posters are excluded; see below) |
| Digitized posters | Digitized posters accessible via Internet links. |
| Electronic resources | Descriptions of material in electronic form. Magnetic tapes, diskettes, CD-ROMs but also networked resources (with links to the servers or files) |
| Net-published periodicals | Net-published periodicals accessible via Internet links |
