Searching in LIBRIS

There are two search screens in the LIBRIS Database: Quick search and Advanced search.

A quick search will be sufficient in most cases but the advanced search screen can be used to refine a search and make it more precise. Many more search entries are provided and searches can be delimited in several ways.

In the LIBRIS Articles Database and in the databases on special topics there is only one search screen (similar to the advanced search screen).

All searches result in a hit list beginning with the most recently published titles. Articles and reviews may be found at the end of the hit list.

The search screens are self-explanatory but help texts are always available. By clicking on the name of a search entry, e.g. author or title, you can get a short explanation of each of them.

When more than one search term is entered in the same entry the system automatically adds an implicit AND between between the terms, e.g. Sweden history is interpreted as Sweden AND history. It is, however, possible to change the operator and enter for instance Sweden OR Swedish.

[SEARCHFORM]

When search terms are entered under different search entries the system automatically implies an AND between them. For instance Astrid Lindgren entered under Author and Bullerbyn under Title is interpreted as Author: Astrid AND Lindgren AND Title: Bullerbyn. It is not possible to change the operator between the search entries. An AND is always implied.

[SEARCHFORM2]

The system is not case sensitive.

Icons are used to browse the hit list, move from one hit to the next, to get a new search screen, to go back to the start page, etc.

Their functions are as follows:

[HELP] General help
[SEARCH] New search
[CURR_LIST] Current section of hit list
[PREV Previous section of hit list
[NEXT Next section of hit list
